He hadn't obviously tensed up, but he seems to relax a little bit anyway at Haku's words. As long as it was a choice, an attempt to be independent, then that's perfectly fine.
He can't help wishing Haku felt comfortable enough to confide in him before now, but that's not Haku's fault. Lan Wangji's always seeing things he could've done better, said better, and not just with his parenting. It's simply how he is.
Lifting a hand, he rests it on Haku's head again--and this time, he doesn't follow it up with an ear grab. Instead, he gently takes the cup, moving to refill it with more water.]
Very well. You may write Mizuki a letter. [He holds out the water, but he waits until Haku looks up at him before he continues, and relinquishes it.] If you still find it satisfactory tomorrow, you may send it.
[UN-FUCKING-LIKELY but he isn't going to say that. Instead--]
If not, I can help you pen a new one.
[Because Lan Wangji may not send any love letters, but that sure doesn't mean he's never thought of any to write.]
It's... strange. [His head dips slightly under the hand before Lan Wangji moves away for more water, and Haku sits to look at his hands, face flushed.] I've only met Mizuki a few times, but...
I want her to... think well of me. To know she will be okay even if this is... planned.
[Usually, he's very much like Lan Wangji in that he doesn't have very drastic facial changes... though he may have a bit more than dear old dad in the long run. But with the alcohol, despite how much water Wei Wuxian tried to feed him, the permission brings back that small, soft sort of smile.
He looks up to accept the water and the encouragement.]
[It's not strange at all, actually, though Lan Wangji doesn't say that. Haku may not be severely intoxicated, but Lan Wangji has no idea how good his memory of all of this will be. Nor does he really feel like testing Haku's range of logic right now.
He also doesn't say that he can't imagine anyone not thinking well of Haku, even though it's absolutely true. Even totally sober, he doubts Haku would believe him free of bias--which is fair, because he isn't, but still.
He watches a little while longer, but in the end, all he says is--] Mm.
[Look, it could be worse. Lan Wangji could be letting him send it as-is! Then Haku'd really get the grown-up experience of making terrible intoxicated decisions!!
For now, though, Lan Wangji will let him pour his heart out in peace. He has a phone call to make anyway.]
[For a moment, he thinks to apologize for his.... current state, but the words fail him. He can try again when Lan Wangji returns to see what all he got up to with the letter. He nods, easing off the bed as Lan Wangji goes, trying not to spill the glass while taking a sip.
He carries it with him as he goes to the study for the paper and pen, puts it down on top of one of the coasters. Sitting in Lan Wangji's seat feels... important. And, for once, he doesn't have the urge to snoop at all. Wow. Alcohol makes Haku truly a good boy.
Instead, he dutifully gets to work on the letter. He... has to use a few sheets because he messes up, and his hand-writing isn't the greatest, but! listen! He stupidly says some very Lan and very compassionate things. The ending is a little lackluster as he falls asleep just when he gets to "yours truly" or "forever yours," and ends up dragging the pen.
He probably gets some ink on his cheek. There's a letter, though, spotted with glitter. GODSPEED, WEI WUXIAN.]

I'll write one. Thanks.
[He will 100% hate the letter tomorrow probably.]
