[IT'S NOT FINE. Lan Wangji's entire demeanor shifts in an instant--suddenly, he looks much more like Chuuya's right-hand man than the besotted disaster who constantly mails his "un"requited love fresh produce.]
... A courtesan in Middleton overheard a few Xian Le semi-regulars talking. Bragging about Mori numbers dwindling—how they're being put in their place.
The especially concerning part, though, was that they then mentioned a woman recently escaping, and that they haven't been able to find her.
[That's... well. Lan Wangji likes Obi-wan very much, and even trusts him, but they don't often talk business when they spend time together. He believes that Obi-wan will want to get to the bottom of this, but if he, Chuuya's right-hand man, were to go asking for details, he isn't so sure he'd get them. Xie Lian certainly wouldn't, and as nice as he seems to be, Lan Wangji didn't make it to where he is today by being naive.
He doesn't say any of that, though. He breathes deeply, trying to center himself, and calm his racing thoughts.]
Do you know anything about the woman? She was Mori, I take it. [Or else they probably wouldn't have said she "escaped"...]
I have not heard of a missing woman, but I will speak to Chuuya. We can ask our people to check in. [A pause--but Shigure was kind enough (and bold enough, considering) to bring him this information, he deserves something in exchange.] I was under the impression that the targets have mostly been children.
Possible. [But unlikely, he thinks. He's getting the sense that all of this is interconnected.] The targets could simply be indiscriminate.
[Or the worse options--this woman is the mother of one or some of the missing children, and/or she discovered the identities of the culprits, and intended to turn them in... he won't be surprised if this woman wasn't so much a target as someone the Xian Les wanted to silence.
There's nothing for it--he'll have to bring it to Chuuya's attention. Even Lan Wangji doesn't know everyone in their ranks. For now, he simply looks at Shigure, serious.]
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Shigure. The risks you've taken are not inconsequential. [He appreciates it, he truly does. Lan Wangji's biggest priority has always been keeping his people safe, and he isn't one to take for granted those who help him do just that.]
[There's plenty of thanks needed, actually!! But Lan Wangji isn't going to argue the point; he has too many other things on his mind right now. Like the unenviable task he has of passing this on to Chuuya, who is going to be Pissed.]
If you learn anything else, will you bring it to me?

Yes?

He's going to assume not, but he'll ask anyway, just to be sure.] Did she describe anyone, or recognize them?
[And then, more importantly--] Have you spoken to Chuuya about this?
no subject
[he shakes his head.]
Not yet. You're the first I've told.

No thanks needed. I'm neutral in any family disputes, but if innocents are being harmed, then there's no reason not to get involved.

I'll try.

[That's all he can ask for.]
Be safe, Shigure.
